Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
An important representative commented the incident rendered him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
